Our Mission Statement - The Promises Project, Inc. was founded in 2005 by a group of people in recovery and concerned citizens, for the purpose of providing education, support, information and referrals to the San Mateo/San Francisco bay area Recovery and General Communities.

Goals Statement

Our goal is to develop and broker resources to help people in recovery to find and utilize services and information that will help them to continue their processes of Life-Recovery and substance addiction treatment by utilizing mentoring, education  and other suggested means of carrying out a Program of Recovery.

Whenever possible, the Promises Project, Inc. will negotiate with providers to offer professional services without cost or at reduced rates.

We also provide support and recovery-based information to Human Service organizations, treatment programs and to the greater community.

Non-Affiliation Statement

The Promises Project, Inc.'s name was inspired by contents of the book  ‘Alcoholics Anonymous’.

This excerpt from the book Alcoholics Anonymous, pages 83-84, is reprinted with permission of Alcoholics Anonymous World Services, Inc. (“A.A.W.S.”)  Permission to use this excerpt does not mean that A.A.W.S. is in any way affiliated with the organization reprinting this material.  A.A. is a program of recovery from alcoholism only – use of this material in connection with entities and activities which are patterned after A.A., but which address other problems or concerns, or in any other non-A.A. context, does not imply otherwise.

The Promises

If we are painstaking about this phase of our development, we will be amazed before we are half way through. We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness. We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it. We will comprehend the word serenity and we will know peace. No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others. That feeling of uselessness and self-pity will disappear. We will lose interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows. Self-seeking will slip away. Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change. Fear of people and of economic insecurity will leave us. We will intuitively know how to handle situations which used to baffle us. We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves.

Are these extravagant promises? We think not. They are being fulfilled among us, sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly. They will always materialize if we work for them.

We hope that by providing information and resources, we can help facilitate what we see as the next step of 'The Promises' ... incremental progress towards personal growth, social responsibility, family and financial stability, and a 'change in outlook and attitude' for people who suffer from substance addiction and their families.

We also hope to encourage a change in the general negative perception the general public has of people and families who suffer from  substance addiction.
